The Kelly Kadets have practiced at Glencoe Elementary School in SE Portland for many decades. We are fortunate to have access to this facility.
Important note: If there is no school at Glencoe on a certain Friday because of conferences or teacher-days, then practice for all Kelly Kadet groups will be at Stites Performing Arts Center. The Glencoe "free club" will not have any practice on no-school days. See below.

Stites Performing Arts Center--WEDNESDAYS
Dancer-twirlers who train at Stites Dance Studio may not able to get to Glencoe for the Friday after-school team classes. They have the opportunity to join a Kelly Kadet team on Wednesday evenings at Stites. They are also included in all the Saturday practices. This practice is only available for twirlers who also take dance classes.

Saturdays for all Kellys starting in January

Saturdays
Twirlers receive more instruction and supervised practice times on Saturdays in the winter. This is included in your dues and strongly encouraged. It is especially important January-April, when twirlers are working on their solo routines. Generally, most of the practice time on Fridays is working on skills and team routines, while Saturday time is working on skills and individual routines.
First-year Kellys usually attend a minimum of 4 Saturdays during the season. Intermediate and advanced twirlers usually take advantage of this time by attending every Saturday. This is included in your fees.
Check with Shanon or Debbie every Friday at practice to confirm your group's Saturday practice time.
Final schedule will be posted in December.

Appearance/grooming
For all Kelly Kadet baton practices, twirlers are expected to wear their practice outfit. Girls (and boys with long hair) are expected to have their hair in a bun. This is non-negotiable.
Details:
Kelly Kadet twirlers must wear black, snug-fitting practice outfits: sleeveless biketards or sleeveless tank leotards with either bikeshorts, leggings, or snug jazz pants. No tummies showing! Boys may wear bike shorts or jazz pants, and a snug black T-shirt, not baggy. Either baton shoes or ballet shoes may be worn for practice. (We have all these items for sale, or you may find them at local stores.)
Girls must have their hair in a neat bun. Putting hair in a bun may seem daunting, but is a skill that can be learned, or someone can help them. It is important for twirlers to have their hair supplies (hair band, bobby pins, net, comb or brush) with them so that they can get ready. No "messy buns" and no bangs in the eyes.
We ask parents to support these requirements buy being sure supplies are replenished as needed. Encourage your twirlers to get their baton gear together on the night before including batons, clothes, shoes, hair supplies, and choreography notes. Learning to be responsible for their own activities is an important skill that we work on through the year.
